Beauty Pie is the new kid on the block and there's so much buzz around this new player in the world of subscription boxes. When it comes to makeup and skincare, I am extremely picky. I do believe in the adage that you pay for quality, so I was extremely skeptical about trying this particular brand. I've never had great success in high-street makeup products albeit a few, so as skeptical as I was I was also intrigued.
What is Beauty Pie essentially? The core idea is to provide luxury quality beauty products at factory costs. The brand accomplishes this by following a protocol of radical transparency -- by breaking down the manufacturing costs. There are a few brands that do this in the fashion sphere but Beauty Pie is one of the few I've come across in the beauty industry. In my mind, Beauty Pie is almost like the Everlane of the beauty industry!

So now, the bigger question: How does Beauty Pie work in actuality? Just like many of the subscription boxes out there you've a standard subscription price monthly. There are 3 membership levels which each have a particular spending limit for the month. Unlike other beauty boxes or subscriptions I have tried in the past, you don't have a box of products you may or may not use sent to you. Instead, you get to choose the products that you want each month -- as long as you have the spending limit! This could be something that is a pro or a con, depending on the perspective. For me, it reads both ways. Usually in a beauty subscription, there's quite a bit of products each month that you may not use or want or even be into. This builds up and you're pressed to donate or toss these out. That's quite a wasteful endeavor altogether -- so having products that you choose for yourself seems a better way of subscriptions. But, on the other hand, Beauty Pie's subscription aren't just that amount you pay monthly. It adds up -- there's the subscription cost, the products itself and the delivery charges. Granted it doesn't come close to the luxury buys I might have had to save up, but it still isn't as negligible as one might think. Also, the subscriptions are for a minimum of 3 months, so you end up at the very least paying £30 irrespective of whether or not you buy anything.
Everyday Great Skin Foundation in 700 Caramel
My most common complaint with foundations are formulation and color matching. But, I did find my exact shade -- which almost never happens! -- and I put it through my usual product testing and it fared as well as my trusted top shelf foundations! So much so, it's sitting in my top shelf too. The undertone for the foundation matched my warm undertone wonderfully. This has now become a product I reach for more and more. That being said, I've noticed that it doesn't fare as well as some of my other favourites for an extremely long day. But, since I wear this particular foundation for everyday use and not for anything heavy duty, I don't have that big a problem with the staying power. It does work perfectly well during a normal work day for me. It does tend to get a tad oily towards the end of the day, but so does every other foundation for me. These were my only two concerns which isn't all that bad at all! I do commend the brand for the extent of their color range. There are very few brands that achieve that in the first go itself! Especially since there are brands out there that are still not extremely inclusive in the color spectrum. Would I buy this again? Yes, but for the member price! As a member you pay £6.62 as opposed to the typical price of £30 which I think is the price-point for most of my tried and tested luxury foundations.
Über Volume Boost Mascara
I'm blessed with naturally full lashes but i'm always on the lookout for mascaras that make them fuller as opposed to clumpier. If you are a mascara overdoer like I am, you'd have to try this! The tube and the wand itself don't look like much, but it's wonderful on application! Your lashes get lifted, curled and fluttery with this one product. I usually use two different mascaras for these results but having one product that does them all? Extremely wonderful! This is the one product I'd pay the full price for. Urban Decay Perversion which is my holy grail retails for £21, so it's not something that I don't pay for in that price range! But the members price of £3.36 is also a steal. I'd be trying out all the other mascaras under Beauty Pie very soon!
Wondergel All-day Stay Eyeliner
As gel eyliners go, this does its job. I do use the Maybelline eyeliner as much as I use this one, so I'd say they're comparable. Its a matte application which doesn't budge until I get ready to take it off at the end of the day -- which is what you want out of a gel liner! I'd probably give one of the other products a go -- as much as I love this -- because there's a drugstore equivalent for me in Maybelline.
So, the big question is If I think Beauty Pie is worth the hype? I'd say yes. The products are pretty top-notch for the price-points. They do perform incredibly well. If you are skeptical about the subscriptions you could always get the 3 months subscription, and then buy something from every range and test it out for yourself! The next thing I'm going to try out from the brand is skincare :)
Cheers!
