Going Vegan?

Going on a 'Plant-based diet' or Veganism is something everyone seems to be trying these days. But, choosing vegan skincare is a more thought-out decision for me.

Firstly, what is vegan skincare? That's important due to the existence of products that could be mistaken to be vegan. There are 'cruelty-free' and 'natural' that read similar to a novice but are actually quite different. Cruelty-free products are simply products that are made without any kind of animal testing. Natural products are those that are produced without any chemicals or synthetics in them. Now, vegan skincare is different from both of them. They're products that are made without any animal-derived ingredients.

I think choosing an entire lifestyle that would be plant-based would be quite hard but the results could be quite rewarding. If you're someone who has skin that's extremely sensitive or prone to allergies, this might be the moment to try out some vegan products. They might work better on you than any other skincare product!

Recently I stepped into the Superdrug Vegan pop-up shop in Shoreditch London. When I first stepped in, it was just out of curiosity and not in a bid to buy anything. I was pleasantly surprised by the extent of available vegan products! Even though I was mostly vegetarian throughout my life, my skincare wasn't chosen with the same thoughtfulness. So, finally, my curiosity and the recent bout of breakouts I've been having (which is quite a rarity) led me to pick a few items.

I picked up a B. Relaxed Comforting Moisture Cream and We Love Facemasks in Blueberry Jam and Charcoal. I have tried all three products and I have to say that my initial response is that I like them! Usually, I don't like my face creams to have a strong scent but the almost botanical scent of this one just gives me the visuals of a luxurious spa day. I adored the Blueberry mask due to the jam-like consistency and the suppleness of my skin later. The Charcoal mask left my skin feeling almost toxin-free, which is always a good feeling!

Usually, when I try a new skincare product it takes a little while for my skin to adjust. Through that time the skin on my face especially gets a little irritated. I've noticed though that that's not what has happened this time. My skin feels normal even after a few applications, which says a lot about the product!

If you've got any more vegan skincare options I should try, please let me know! I'm awfully interested in the choices out there.

Cheers! Madhu x
