Someone once said, "In a world full of trends, I want to be a classic". I completely agree with that sentiment. Trends are well and good but they have a limited shelf life. So, I'd rather invest my money in classics than trends. They're timeless and versatile. There are 8 pieces I think we should all have in our wardrobe.
#1: A White Shirt
If you don't have one of these, we need to talk. Honestly, get one now! You can pair a white shirt with absolutely anything and come off looking classy. It's a multi-purpose staple that you should have. I'd say you need a couple of them - a classic cotton one and a silk one. A silk white shirt with a pair of skinny jeans or even tailored trousers with a pair of white sneakers or black heels will make the perfect outfit for your next date night. Or even for a work-to-evening outfit.
#2: Trench Coat
A trench is a practical and functional staple that should be a part of your closet already. I am still looking for one that's perfect for me! Especially in London, I think a trench is a must-have piece! Anything can look chic with a trench coat over it.
#3: A LBD
We all need a little black dress in our lives. It's a truly versatile piece that can make your presence more powerful in any social setting. And it's perfect for a party, date or work event. I even wear my LBD with sneakers when I am having a lazy Sunday brunch date with friends. Or if I am going for a stroll through the market in spring.
#4: Black Trousers
A forever chic and cool addition to any closet. They are incredibly versatile and can easily transition from a workday to an evening look. My personal suggestion would be to opt for a cropped pair that would show off your ankles. They help in streamlining your body and can be worn with any shoes. Trés chic!
#5: Nude Pumps
Yes! I never thought I needed these until I saw how they complement your body. I have always been a pump of heels but there is something so very special about a pair of pointed-toes nude pumps. They're perfect with any outfit. I bet a pair of nude pumps could class up a sackcloth!
#6: Midi Skirts
I am a forever fan of the mini skirt. There's never going to be something that would replace it for me. But there's a certain je ne sais quoi about midi skirts that I've simply fallen in love with! If you like classic pieces in your wardrobe, then perfect! I have a collection of midi skirts, including an on-trend leopard print one that I pair with a white shirt (or tee).
#7: Oversized Sunglasses
No matter how many trends come and go, I will always swear by an oversized pair of sunglasses. They simply have longer staying power! They'd always remain a staple in my wardrobe.
#8: A Leather Jacket
The cool 'It Girl' factor of a leather jacket is something we all need in our lives. A black leather jacket gives you the right kind of edginess. They also never go out of style and are perfect for the colder days.
So there! These are what I think every woman needs in her wardrobe and shouldn't do without.
