The Thing About Olaf

Like everyone who went to the cinemas to watch the newest Pixar movie Coco, I caught the featurette of "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" too. It has sure become one of the most talked about controversy in the world of animated movies now! So, here's my twopence about it.

Frozen was quite a move away from the usual Disney formula of 'Happily Ever After' where it's supremely necessary for the girl to find her soulmate for eternal happiness! The sisters banding together and being happy all by themselves was a very charming story. The talking snowman was a cherry on top of the sundae that the movie was. Knowing that the concept worked, mini movies and snippets started popping up. So much so that it honestly started what should be referred to as 'Frozen Fever'! The new one about Olaf is just a recent one of those.

While the entire of the Olaf mini-feature was very cute, the length of it before an actual feature could have been a little shorter. What could have been the issue was that people who hadn't really head about it could've gotten mighty confused with seeing the long tale of Christmas Traditions and Olaf! I think if the audience had been prepared for it, the acceptance and result would have been much better.

Coco is one of the first ever story about Latin Americans completely. Putting a mini-story about Olaf and a complete array of milky white people could amount to playing it safe. Which is the main problem I believe anyone of color would have with the Olaf featurette.

But if one just takes it as one of those Disney and Pixar partnerships that has happened in the past, then both these pieces of incredible animation can be enjoyed!

So there, that was my two-pence worth! But as always, this is just my opinion. Let me know what yours is!

Cheers! Madhu x
