Are Florals Just for Spring?

Every time the spring months roll in, I can see the floral everything come out again! The warmer months validate the blossoms printed on our clothes, shoes and what-nots but what about when you live somewhere cold perennially? Does that mean you can't have the wonder of floral prints gracing your wardrobe? I think not. Florals, in my opinion, can be worn all year long. As long as you do it right.

There are some rules that I personally follow whether I am dressing myself or a client in florals. Want to hear them?

Go darker

The simple rule of thumb I follow is to have lighter florals for the summer and spring months and darker ones for the colder days. By no means am I saying this is an absolute rule but it's just something that I work with. Usually, the white and yellow bases for florals that I do prefer for the warmer days also tend to have a different silhouette from that of my winter florals, So, I'd say go for black, navy, or gray for your base. This sticks with the colder days' color stories and you can still wear florals then. Also, darker florals look so much chicer paired with tights (or stockings, if you're like me), boots and a jacket.

Sleeves and Hems

Dressing fashionably for those colder days isn't as tricky as we might think. Find what works for you personally. I always recommend on longer sleeves for autumn and winters - they're easier to stay warm in. Longer hemlines - midis, long skirts, and maxis - work extremely well. They tend to keep you warm and they're quite a trend driven choice too. If you are like me - petite - and feel that sometimes going shorter would work better for you, then go for it and wear your tights underneath!

Layer up

Wearing a simple jacket would do wonders in making your floral be more subtle. This is incredibly helpful if you like to wear some of your more summer pieces in those early autumnal days. Even later in the year, when it's cold, having a coat or jacket on would keep you warm and still extremely photo-ready at all times!

Wear those Boots

Whether your boots are investment buys or from New Look, they're always a good choice with florals -- especially in those chillier days. If you know me, you'd know I love a good pair of boots. Even though I do love prints and motifs, I tend to go solid and wearable when it comes to boots. I tend to match them with everything I wear. So, they're either in blacks or browns. My staple is usually a dress with tights and boots. Or I'd wear one of my many skirts with a floral blouse paired with tights and boots. Owning a couple good pairs of boots is an incredibly versatile addition to any wardrobe.

It's all about how you style your florals -- and you can then wear it all through the year! Trust me when I say that it perks me right up on those cold and gloomy days in England. Let me know how you wear your summer prints for winter.

Cheers!
