I've always had a love-hate relationship with jeans. Recently, I did a wardrobe purge and really got rid of things that I've not worn much in the last six months. It was quite a process -- because I've been having some pieces for the last 8 to 10 years. I know! Not actually changing much in terms of my body as well as style has really led me to accumulate so much.
Despite the mountain of clothes I did have, I saw that I had two pairs of jeans. These were also the pieces of clothing I seldom reach for. I usually keep at least one pair of jeans on hand, just because. I have tried so many different kinds, cuts and silhouettes over the years! But, no matter how I tried to take the cool, laid-back route of wearing jeans, it never worked! I guess it just wasn't me. So, this time, I really thought about actually getting rid of all (in my case, two) of my jeans. Before I did that, I naturally did check the number of photos I had of me wearing jeans. Very few. So, out they went!
But then, I started wondering why I didn't get along with jeans, when seemingly everyone and their cat did! And even more importantly, why did I keep buying them? I'd like to think that not wearing jeans is probably because I don't like constricted clothing. And, to me, jeans are extremely constricting! I just cant seem to find them comfortable -- and they usually are way too tight around my legs, which I don't thing I can ever come to enjoy! I like the ease with which I can wear dresses and skirts. I feel extremely comfortable in them. The same isn't true for trousers and jeans, personally. This could stem from a childhood of not wearing jeans and trousers all that much. I dressed in dresses and skirts then too. My style and the comfort I seek in clothing hasn't changed all that much!
So, now that I have ditched my jeans, let's see if there ever comes a time where I'd ever want to revisit the realm of wearing them. For now, I am extremely happy sans jeans in my wardrobe. Let me know if there's any of those staples that you're not a fan of and are thinking of letting go. Maybe, I could help :)
Cheers!
