Lip Tint: DIY

Writer's picture: Madhumitha SrinivasanMadhumitha Srinivasan

I've always been that person who's extremely interested in making a custom blend of absolutely everything, so it becomes my signature. I do this with perfumes and lip colours extensively. You can just imagine how ridiculous packing for a trip might get for me.

For the past few months, I have been trying to create a lipstick line and contacting labs for it. It's quite a lengthy process, especially when it comes to all my specifications! So, I wanted to make something easy for now that would still be a signature product, but something you can whip up in your kitchen.

In case you're like me, follow along!

What do you need? Shea Butter (1 tsp) Sweet Almond Oil (2 tsp) Grated Beeswax (1 tsp) Lipstick (1/4 tsp) Cute Storage Container

How to make it? Fill a saucepan with water and let it simmer. Combine the shea butter, sweet almond oil, beeswax and lipstick in a glass bowl that can be immersed inside the saucepan. The mixture will start melting. Mix it with a fork or a toothpick. Pour it out into the container. Let it sit undisturbed for 30 minutes.

Voila! You have your very own personalized lip tint. It's extremely creamy and moisturizing. I made sure to use a glass bowl I wouldn't use for food, just because I'd gone through the cleaning hassle of these kinds of DIYs before. Also, you can add essential oil of some sort for an added scent. I might be adding vanilla or rose essential oil to the next one I create. Also, take a chance to play with colours to make your tint more personal. Believe it or not, I used colours from 4 different tubes to create a perfect shade I would reach for everyday.

Go ahead and try this out! If you do, share the picture on Instagram and tag me (@madhu_vasan)! I would love to see your take on this.

Cheers! Madhu x
