What I wore to my BFF's Indian Wedding Reception

Weddings are a big deal. Doubly so if it's your best friend's. The dilemma (for me) when it comes to weddings is outfits. I spent three days looking for a perfect outfit for my BFF's Wedding Reception! The perfect outfit is something I can wear for a multitude of future events. And most importantly, cost efficient. There are very few ceremonies that I do attend so sinking a great deal of money on one outfit doesn't make sense to me. I have made the same argument for prom dresses and graduation outfits.

So, when I finally came across a place where I could mix and match the perfect outfit, I was incredibly pleased. Especially because the whole thing costed lesser than £ 100 (It actually came up to ₹6000 when I purchased it in Chennai). The outfit was a lehenga but a more easy-to-wear, lightweight version. It was great to dance in! Since my sister and I are sometimes the same size, she wore it to another wedding this year. So, even if I don't get much use of it, she would.

The skirt was a mint green with an orange applique work border. I seldom go for a pastel shade but this particular shade really worked well for my skin tone. I would say the fabric is a cross between tulle and net. The skirt wasn't as full flared as I'd have liked mainly due to the underskirt. The only problem with this fabric was that it was tricky to be photographed in because the camera could pick up on the seems of the underskirt - but after a few pictures I started realising how to play with that too. The border was heavier than the body of the skirt - which made the entire skirt fall gracefully. The waist band was completely elasticised though there was a bejeweled drawstring on the side just for the ornamental value of it.

My favourite part of this buy was the blouse. It's this gorgeous brocade in black with golden motifs. The borders on the neckline and sleeves closely resembled the colors on the border of the skirt. The blouse had inbuilt cups so ideally one could go braless wearing this. I always opt for such blouses for my sarees and lehengas because it saves me the effort of finding lingerie that works well with a normal blouse - this is a hassle free approach! Also, when you're wearing the outfit for a long period of time, you really will be glad for the choice. The specialty of this blouse is there are no hooks or buttons you need help with. The back has ruching which makes the it fit like putting on a t-shirt. There's so much to love in this blouse!

Finally, I picked a net dupatta with a wide border which complemented the entire outfit. I chose a wide border especially because I wasn't sure when I was buying how exactly I wanted to drape it. I started off the night with it draped loosely on my shoulder but once dancing started I had to pin it to stop it flying about!

I paired the outfit with antique style jewelry that the bride very sweetly had got for me. The entire look elevated with those pieces, thanks to her. I had the bare minimum makeup on my face and focused on my eyes. I winged out my eyeliner over a golden eyeshadow to create a makeup look that would go alongside the outfit. I didn't bother with lipstick because I knew I would be drinking and eating through the night.

This outfit and that night is one of my favourite memories in recent times! Not just because I saw how happy my best friend was, but also because that night symbolised how I think weddings should be - extremely happy and fun!

Cheers!
